In this Post we will see how to install wordpress theme using cpanel file manager, we have already covered installing wordpress theme using upload button present in appearance -> themes and we have also already covered how to install wordpress theme using the inbuilt theme search which allows you to install only the themes that are present in the wordpress.org repository, where you just get the option to search for the theme that you want to install.
Lets start first we need to download the theme that we want to install, so we go to wordpress.org or any other website and download the theme folder that we want to install, in our case we have downloaded theme bota and the file name is bota2.3.zip. Now open cpanel URL and you will see the following screen Now put in the username and password and then login after login you will see the following screenOn this page click on the file manager icon and another browser tab will popup in which you will see the following screen showing all the files of your cpanel account. On this file manager panel look at the left side partition and click on the Plus sign, just before the public_html, this directory will expand and show a branch with many directories below it, then click on the plus sign just before wp-content, in the directories that appear under public_html, now after the menu under wp-content expands click on the diectory name themes and you will see that the right side partion of the display panel will change to show contents of the themes folder. Please do remember in case of themes we didn’t click on plus sign but on the text themes itself and this was a single click. Now what actually happens when we upload a theme using the drag and drop uploader in wordpress all the folders that represent a theme are uploaded into
So in the themes folder you will have folder belonging to each theme, so if you are unable to upload the wordpress theme using the inbuilt uploader you can upload the wordpress theme using cpanel and unizip it here. Lets do this, in the above screenshot you will see an upload button, click on that and you will see another browser window popup into a new tab which will look like thisclick on the select file option and select the theme file that you want to upload in my case my theme file name is bota.2.3.zip and you will see the following screenAfter the theme zip file is 100% uploaded the progress bar turns from blue to green now click on the below highlighted link that says return to the themes folder and when you will click on that this new tab will close and you will be returned to the file manager tab from which you clicked on the upload button, now in this right click on the recently uploaded file in our case bota.2.3.zip and select extract as shown in the following screen
click on the close button at the bottom right and it will come to the file manager file listing, now in the file listing you will see that there is a folder by the name of the theme that we have extracted here, now lets delete the zip file as we no longer require it, right click on the zip file and select delete. Now confirm the deletion and the file will be deleted, now login into wordpress and go to appearance-> themes on the left hand side vertical menu and you will see the following screen where you will see the screenshot of theme that you have just installed
As highlighted in the above screenshot you can see the just installed theme present in the themes list, you can just take mouse pointer over the theme and click on activate to activate the theme.
